Children's Festival
In 2005, leadership at Community Church decided to combine the objectives of a Vacation Bible School with the outreach ideas of a Block Party. God then added the energy and heart of our youth ministry who had planned to take a mission trip somewhere. It was at this point we had the first form of the present day Children's Festival.
The Children's Festival has continued to be our church-wide missions trip to our community. We pack up tables, chairs, sound equipment, and many other things and transport all of it about 7 miles toward downtown Guthrie to an open area owned by the City of Guthrie called Cottonwood Flats. There we set up tents, carnival games, food, animals, music stage, inflatables and many activities for children and their families and call it the "Backyard Bash".
The first year exceeded our expectations with 1,338 people attending the 3-day Tues-Thur evening event. Since then, we have seen the festival become a rally point for our region. People of all shapes, color, and backgrounds come together to sow the love and Word of God. In 2010, our church along with 6 others joined with 32 businesses to serve almost 3,000 children and adults over a Friday night and all-day Saturday venue. Our plans are to continue hosting the festival on the last Friday and Saturday of July with an expectancy of Greater Things as God continues to pour out His blessings!
