CYM: What does this mean?
We refer to our youth ministry as CYM; what does this mean? Simply put it is an acronym for Catalyst Youth Ministries. However, there is a deeper level to the name Catalyst. The youth ministry here at Community Church was named "Catalyst" when I still a high school student attending the youth group here. At the time I didn't think about the power and what the name represented. Catalyst has many definitions that basically mean the same thing, but the one that we choose to use is "an agent that provokes change." That's it; that is what we want to do. As a youth group, I would love for people to look at us and say "WOW, they are weird, different, etc." not weird or different like "They just kicked that security officer, or they just base jumped off a building," but weird like "They just stood up for that kid who was being bullied, they read their Bible at lunch everyday, they don't listen to the music we listen to, they are nice to everyone, they pray for me when I don't even ask for it," that is the "weird" that I and the church staff would love to see. I truly believe that Catalyst is more than just some youth group that meets twice a week and moves on, NO, this group will be a catalyst to this town, state, nation, world, there is no limit. It is nothing that I do, Pastor Bill, Pastor Jeff, or any of the staff. It is all about obedience to God and doing what He has called us to do when He calls us to do it. Let's embrace this concept of Catalyst or Community Church, it is much more than a name; it is who we are, what we do, what we want to do.
Ephesians 1:22-23 "And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all."
