When Jesus... Steps In!
And I suppose that if all the other events in Jesus’ life were written, the whole world could hardly contain the books! John 21:25 (TLB)
1. JESUS GETS INTO YOUR BOAT
- Interest - He lets Jesus take him fishing.
Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.”
Luke 5:3-4 (NLT)
- Revelation - He gets a huge catch of fish.
“Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking. Luke 5:5-7 (NLT)
- Fear - He tells Jesus to leave him.
When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m too much of a sinner to be around you.” For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with him. Luke 5:8-9 (NLT)
Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!”
Luke 5:10b (NLT)
- Faith - He follows Jesus.
And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.
Luke 5:11 (NLT)
2. JESUS GETS YOU OUT OF YOUR BOAT
Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!” Matthew 14:24-26 (NLT)
- Faith to Get Out Of The Boat!
But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!” Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat . . . Matthew 14:27-29 (NLT)
- Faith to Step Out On The Water!
. . . and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. Matthew 14:29-30 (NLT)
- Faith to Cry Out When You’re Sinking!
“Save me, Lord!” he shouted. Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped. Then the disciples worshiped him. “You really are the Son of God!” they exclaimed. Matthew 14:30-33 (NLT)
